Part L1 Conservation of Fuel & Power

SAP is THE only way to demonstrate Part L1 compliance.

SAP calculations are an integral part of the design process and are now required as part of your full plans application for Building Regulation approval i.e. they are required before work starts on site.

In order to carry out a SAP calculation you require a full set of plans, together with information on the intended heating, ventilation, building construction and glazing. It should be noted that much of the final specification will be dependent on the outcome of the SAP calculation.

The calculation takes into account a range of factors that contribute to energy efficiency:

  • The thermal insulation of the building fabric
  • Thermal bridging (In a insulated dwelling heat losses through thermal bridging can account for up to 30% of heat loss)
  • Air permeability
  • Ventilation characteristics of the dwelling
  • The efficiency of the heating system and methods of control
  • The fuel used to provide space heating and water heating, ventilation and lighting
  • The impact of any renewable energy and low carbon technologies

Gladwood have extensive knowledge of SAP. Using the latest Elmhurst software we have carried out over 3000 SAP’s and are best placed to advice on cost effective solutions for your project, from single dwelling units up to large housing schemes.

Other services we offer:

  • "U value" calculations and advice on materials
  • Advice on Renewable Energy & Micro Generation including the Feed in Tariff
  • Thermal Bridging calculations
  • Help with the Code for Sustainable Homes
